I was demoted from Master to Gifted after winning a match? Has this happen to anyone? I lost a few matches but won the next few. It was a win when I was demoted, which doesn't make much sense. Are there other factors that determine league rankings, like # of turns, base hp etc?

Yes, this has happened to other people too.
No, there are no other factors determining your League placement other than winning or losing games - no matter how.
I would guess that you have been rather inactive for a few days and just now experienced the effects of the recently adjusted promotion/demotion mechanic. For further informations on these unexpected league shifts consider this thread by the coding-half of One Man Left.
