Yeah same problem!
Here's another:
100 gurus live together on an island who do not talk at all, but they are all extremely smart. One day, an outsider comes to the island and draws either a red or blue "X" on each guru's chin (at least one of each color). He then tells the gurus that some time in the next 100 days, all gurus with a red "X" on their chin must leave the island at the same exact time, say 4:00 PM, or they will die.
Being as smart as they are, all gurus with a red "X" on their chin manage to leave the island at the exact same time (without talking).
What day do they leave on and how did they do this?

Yes... They are able to see everyone else's color X but not their own.

Ok so here's my first idea (assuming that the gurus all know the rules, and that those that the reds can go before they might all die): If there is only one red person, they will know who they are because they can see that everyone else has a blue cross, and leave on the first possible day.

The gurus step in a line one by one. The first one just stands there, the second one stands besides him, and so on. This will repeat until the next guru sees two different coloured crosses. He will stand between a red crossed guru and a blue crossed one. This will repeat until all the gurus are in the line. All the red gurus will be next to eachother, and the same with all the blue ones. Now, the guru at the far left end will step out of the line, determine which colour he has, and steps again inbetween a red and blue one. Now everyone knows which colour they have, and where the groups of red/blue gurus end, so they group together, and count the amount of red gurus. Say there are 64 red gurus. They will leave on the 64th day (at high noon?), and keep everyone alive and kicking.
