Or maybe I could do something nutty like only count for extra points the Brambles spawned prior to the final 25% of the game's moves or the final 10 moves, whichever is less.

I think it might be a good idea to max out brambles at 2 and get rid of the feedback points. Two brambles can have some utility but any number higher than that is just excessive.

This format would make points more valuable while encouraging the use of veggie specials in the game, I think it would be fun.

It's your tournament though so if you have a different vision then go for it.
