Hope You Have Amigos

by

¡Viva la Coop! has arrived for the iPhone and iTouch! Those of you with a healthy pool of potential partners should be pretty stoked. For the rest of you, I have some recommended reading.

We aren’t able to give promo codes away for our IAP anymore, since our in-app promo code system didn’t sit well with a certain fruit company. So instead, 30 mailing list subscribers are getting a free copy of the Tilt to Live Soundtrack! Tomorrow morning. When my Thursday night shows aren’t on.

Next week, Alex and I journey to our first ever GDC conference. I know it’s supposed to be GD Conference, but this is sort of a family blog. From what I gather, we’ll be spending the week attending lectures and drinking heavily. So basically college.

When we return, we’ll be putting the finishing touches on ¡Viva la Coop Gigante! That’s the two-iPads-required version, one of the more expensive multiplayer situations we can imagine. But it’s not too hard to port over, so why not? And after that… something new.

    Great, I like that OST.

  2. Jarod says:

That “something new” is on my must play list already.

Can’t wait to see what you come up with next. And remember to include “birds” in the title it really helps with sales. 😉

  3. Ed says:

So is the coop out now? How do I get it?

  4. Someone says:

And let it involve lots of explosions!

  5. Avenged110 says:

lol Apple’s lazy about pushing out updates so I just went to iTunes and clicked buy. It actually let me just download the update without waiting. Helpful! Thanks for giving us such a great game guys! Happy B-Day to TTL (and Stevey)

  6. Avenged110 says:

Btw, I need some friends…. Its hard to play this game with yourself…

  7. rull says:

btw it would be great to be able to plat online!
    nice work guys

  8. rull says:

btw it would be great to be able to play* online!
    nice work guys
    (sorry my bad)

  9. Ira1017 says:

PLEASE!!! put out viva la coop on game center i don’t have many friends that own tilt to live. It would be aWESOME if you could put it out on game center!

  10. Ira1017 says:

the second i downloaded the update, it messed up my score on the game center leaderboard, it went from 3,649,139 to 3,279. PLEASE FIX

  11. QuantumApocalypse says:

Same, all my scores reset to 0.

  12. Solan says:

Man, if only i had a guy to play viva la coop with. Well, It’s still great. I also can’t wait for something new from One man left.

  13. Alex says:

@QuantumApocalypse I’m assuming you mean the scores inside the Game type select screen. re-signing into AGOn typically fixes this. But it’s a bug that’ll be fixed in the next update.

@Ira1017 Are you sure you’re looking at the right leaderboard inside the game center app? If you go into the ‘all time’ section your score should still be there.

  14. Sam says:

Thanks, One Man Left! Been waiting for this for ages!

  15. QuantumApocalypse says:

@Alex, Yeah, that fixed it. In Viva La Co-op, I don’t know if it’s a bug or lag, but I played with my friend and after my first turret blew up, my friend’s screen froze with a turret flashing white and shooting but with no bullets and no dots moving. When I died on my screen, my friend’s went fast forward until the end then popped up with the score screen.

  16. Sarion says:

As I tried with my wife, iphone4 and itouch4, bluetooth is better than wifi to play this game and the game created by ip4 is also better.

  17. Peetahzee says:

GARHHH! You guys just got me, an iPad owner with a copy of Tilt to Live HD already, purchasing a copy of Tilt to Live just to play this with friends. You. Suck.

  18. Alex says:

@QuantumApocalypse There sometimes is issues with lag that can only be resolved by starting a new game. This tends to be more common on iPhones where e-mail, SMS, and push notifications all compete for bandwidth and can interfere with the latency of a game.

@Sarion Actually, in most cases Wi-fi tends to be the more stable setup, but it really depends on the situation and bluetooth can sometimes be better, glad it’s working out!

  19. Someone says:

@Peetahzee: You could have just waited for the iPad version to come out.

  20. Chad says:

I loving it but it will be a great improvement if the multiplayer can be played by 3G network. Not just wi-fi and Bluetooth.

  21. Ira1017 says:

@Alex oh, i didn’t look at the section i was on. it was set to “this week” not “all time” still, I’m looking forward to the “something new”.

well, all i have to do now is convince my friend to buy tilt to live.

  22. Miguel says:

Yeah Eric and I just got 8.8 million! We’ll see how many minutes we stay in Gamecenter’s first place.

For some reason we can’t get the Agon online leaderboards to work, even if we are connected to a wi-fi network… When we try to load it it just says “No connection.”
The game itself is super awesome though!

  23. Arvin says:

    THANKS FOR THE CHICKEN DINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Someone says:

@Miguel: You have definately found your Eric.

  25. Ira1017 says:

Hey, will you be able to play viva la coop with an ipad and an iphone? that would be super awesome.

  26. Ira1017 says:

oh, and also, when are you guys gonna make a tilt to live mac app?

  27. Someone says:

@Ira1017: No, and no. If you only have an iPad and your friend only has an iPhone, then you can use the iPhone app, since the aspect ratio is differet. I also don’t think the Mac has an accelerometer. If it does, for some stupid reason, it would be a stupid idea anyways.

  28. Ira1017 says:

I just played coop for like the fifth time, and it was really glitchy. I think you guys still need to smooth this mode out a bit. other than that it works great!

  29. Ira1017 says:

@Someone with the mac app, i was thinking it would be using the trackpad, or the accelerometer on your iphone and connecting via wi-fi.

  30. makitango says:

You failed to mention that Viva la Turret’s power ups now break down way slower than before when stopping to shoot at them (for dragging them, of course). Since then it’s almost impossible to keep them near you for a delayed burst. Kinda sucks 🙁

  31. Someone says:

I’m pretty sure the grid formation shouldn’t be in the Viva la Turret single player. If it should be, it shouldn’t be while you’re in the turret. If it should be, what is wrong with you?

I just wanted to put this in one comment so… can you make the choose gametype screen look more like 1.4? The Perforator option could be in the regular options screen, and the Create game/Join game for Viva la Coop is before the Assume the position thing. Another thing: Please make it clear on the How to play screen that Classic rules also apply to Code Red. Thank you. That was a pretty long comment.

  32. Avenged110 says:

@Someone I believe that MacBooks (and MBP’s) used to have accelerometers actually, but i don’t know if they still do or if they are the same kind as the iPhone’s. I think that they were used to sense a major shift in position (for example, someone knocking the laptop off of a table) to lock the HDD to protect against damage and data loss.. Pretty cool, but overall ineffective for a TTL game and would be ridiculous to play…

  33. Dunk says:

hey i just thought that you should know that the “help” screen for Viva la Coop doesn’t have retina display

  34. rull says:

The new viva la turret solo sucks! i mean its great to get harder games but this is stupid, for example when you are surrounded by a 3 lined circle and u get the ammo to you, instead of crashing the dots or at least sending them AWAY (like before) you just speed them up because the blow is too weak that they just come faster, then you are death. The bars formation now appear in the middle of the screen instead of coming from outside, here i think they sometimes appear at the same distance, or with a minimun difference so its impossible to make a way through both.i dont think the new ammo reloading mode covers this new “difficulties”. A comment from your top 10 viva la turret gamer.

  35. Jarod says:

@Dunk, same on my iPhone 4.

  36. Someone says:

You guys should make the black arrow unlockable. But hard. Really hard. Maybe 10 million in Co-op or something. Do eet!

  37. Russell says:

Viva la Coop is an awesome addition! Now to go Eric hunting.

  38. Arin says:

Love this Game!! i wish that yu can make another mode in viva la coop where we could both get the turrent that way it is a lot better, also i would love to see game center come to this amazing application because its hard to find people that have an iphone with this app and it would be pretty nice if we could just invite someone over game center. Also i would love to see Multiplayer in like classic and code red mode, this would absolutely put this game over the top and if that game to this game i would even pay 20 dollars for this with multiplayer in code red and classic and if you did actually make multiplayer for that it would be nice if one of us dies we could still continue if our partner is still alive and it would be amazing if we each got like 3 lives or something to make it competitive with our friends to keep the most lives and stay alive longer and then at the end we both get that score that we earned as a team. Thank you if you brought this to the game this would be rated 5 stars out of 5 stars and i would pay any price for it no matter how high it is 😀 .

  39. Ira1017 says:

hey, could you put out competitive multiplayer turret mode out?

    • Alex says:

@Ira1017 Scoring higher than your friends on the single player Turret mode is a form of competitive multiplayer. Not exactly at the same time though.

  40. Jay says:

I had this game since the day it was announced at toucharcade and i think i’m pretty decent: 57 million red, 14:00 gaunt, ~500k frostbite, 2 million turret
but i think the difficulty curve for the turret mode, ESPECIALLY the Co-op, steeps up way too fast! or maybe i just suck
