Swiss tournament seems like a great way to go for an outwitters tournament. Here are a few ideas:

* 1pt for p1 win and 2pt for p2 win
* each match between two players includes 2 games on the same map with each player being p1 for one game
* match up a pair of players only once in the initial normal rounds
* each pairing should have similar accumulative scores
* after the initial rounds, simply match 1st with 2nd, 3rd with 4th, etc regardless of whether they played before
* stop when the top N spots are stable with different scores

Oh awarding more points for a P2 win seems like a very interesting idea, netting 1 pt for a p1 draw and 3 pts for a full win. Awarding 2 pts to both players for a p2 tie is strange though... that isn't really that much better than a p1 draw.

I'm not sure how the ratio of points for a p1 win to a p2 win should be though. But that could be a solution to tournaments that don't want to make matches consist of 2 games...
Hopefully further exploration of that idea won't be necessary once the next patch goes live.

I don't think P1 vs. P2 will ever be balanced (even after the patch). Another approach for one game per match would be to give P1 (assuming P1 still has the advantage) to the lower-ranked player for a given pair. Whoever is at the top rank has to go P2, so it takes more work to stay there. When 1st and 2nd play, 2nd is P1 and 1st is P2. If 2nd wins and makes the ranks flip, they players will flip P1/P2 roles in the next game. This would oscillate until 1st place wins a game (as P2) to clinch the win. I don't think you'd want a point difference between P1&P2 wins with this approach.

I realize this is an absurdly low pt/w ratio, as it is skewed heavily by my 2v2 proficiency. I'm fine with a lower seed, though. I'm doing this for kicks, not to win.
