I played all my matches as Scallywags, though it wouldn't have made the slightest difference what team I played in the Foundry matches.

I sent an invitation to Alvendor but he didn't accept yet Sad

RE: Outwitters WORLD CUP - Group Play - GreatGonzales - 10-04-2012 12:27 AM

Well, I THINK I'm about to win in my match with FurrySox on my next turn, which would be turn 26. But I'll let you all know as soon as that happens...

When is the next tournament? I'm still new to Outwitters but i'd love to join if it's after a month or so.

I imagine the tournament will take at least another month to finish. Also, I hope this becomes a regular thing, but it depends on who, if anyone, is willing to host it next time.

On another note, it would be nice to have the World Cup stickied. I feel like this would generate more interest in the tournament as it reaches it's later stages since the thread won't become buried so easily like GreatGonzale's tourney did. As fewer people have to post results as more people are eliminated from the tourney, it'll be easier for the thread to collect dust =(

Did you need a host? *raises hand*

On a different topic, but not completely unrelated, i was thinking of hosting a 2v2-random tournament.

The main problem is that there's no way of doing a knockout system, so i was thinking of taking 20 competitors instead of the 'normal' 16 or 32, and use cross-(semi)finals afterwards.

I might want to start a new thread to show how that would work out.

Maybe this would deserve an own thread, but just to test the waters: Would there be interest in a tournament just for the lower leagues?

RE: Outwitters WORLD CUP - Group Play - GreatGonzales - 10-04-2012 05:32 AM

I like the idea of lower league only tournament. One problem off the top of my head though: I know a lot of people here are really Masters-ST skill level players but haven't been promoted yet for whatever reason.

Also, +1 to stickying this thread. It will start to collect dust (like mine) once we get into the elimination round.

There is actually a 2v2 tournament ongoing here.

But it wasn't very well attended, and it's in the later rounds. I bet there's interest enough for a new 2v2 tournament!

Ok, I can report the conclusion of my last match with furrysox. He resigned on turn 25, but I would have won on turn 26...

P1 furrysox
P2 GreatGonzales
GreatGonzales
Sweetie Plains
25 turns

I guess I made I in???

As we're now approaching the knockout stages, just a couple of considerations before we kick off. The key issue is how the ongoing beta test affects the knockout games (I think a fair number of players in the knockout stages are involved in the beta). Points to consider:

1) there are a few bugs resulting from changes in the beta server which are 'leaking' over to the live servers (as posted by ArtNJ) - it looks like the latest patch has fixed the 2 most pertinent ones, but not sure if anything else could pop up

2) I'm not sure how much of a distraction for players involved, who'll be switching back and forth between servers, playing the game with altered game dynamics... plus obviously trying to contribute to the beta test for the next week or two (I'd say there would be some distraction but overall manageable)

3) the beta changes are likely to go live by the end of this month:
a) new team (as mentioned earlier in this thread) - this is something we can easily exclude for the remainder of the tourney
b) FTA fix - this will affect all new games started and therefore if the tourney continues before the live update, we need to be careful to ensure all games are started properly before the fix, so we don't end up with some games being affected and others not (I suppose it should be fine to start a new round with everyone equally affected)
c) the trial extra wit for kill (as mentioned in ArtNJ's post about bugs) - let's not discuss any details and merits/cons here, it's only a trial feature and we should leave that discussion to the beta forum. The important thing for the purposes of this thread is that if it is implemented, there could be profound implications for the tourney as we could be mid-way through games when suddenly the mechanics of the game changes dramatically. Changes that affect how you would have played the game to that point.

I think the last point 3© is my biggest concern. One option might be to postpone the start of the knockout stages until we know what beta changes will make it into the live server.
