Oldonater1 never started his game with me.
So he forfeits that one.

Congrats, mr_13en!

It looks like he has the inside track to winning the group - and entering the plate competition seeded highly as well. Game_taker is likely to finish third after the race penalties.

Good luck Gendry and HisDady! It was a pleasure competing with you in the group. I should have paid more atention to the small (base) points Wink Now one of you have to win this championship so I don't feel weak...

Btw. If there is big and small points draw I would do it like in football (soccer) - who scores more points is in the lead. It's much easier than what was proposed by trutchy.

There are good arguments both ways. Points are problematic in outwitters because, in most cases, it's good strategy to let someone hit your base (and bad strategy to hit theirs) unless a win is in sight. I can't tell you how many times I've made a come back because someone attacked my base too early. Also, a lot of people are playing for the base points near the end, when they know they've lost, rather than defending with all of their resources. It's playing within the rules of course but just shows that base health isn't always an indicator of the dominance in that game. It's not like in sports where scoring more goals is always a good thing.

All that is to say that there is no real argument suggesting someone was stronger just because they were able to inflict (and receive) more base damage. I think turns taken is more effective - but then that also varies greatly by map.

Alan is right - there isn't really a fool proof method for calculating points other than the win. Without resorting to countless drawn out tie-breaker games the only other firm metrics that can be used for group rankings are base points and turns taken. Both can be an indicator of game 'closeness' and both have their limitations.

I think that one advantage that the base points has over turns at least in the context of the tournament is that points do not encouraging turtling or overly long games.

In the end I think we just have to acknowledge that the base points are not necessarily a measure of the closeness of the game, but instead a strategic option you have to use in your game play should you believe that you are in a losing position and in that context I think it's a reasonable option.
