After playing too many tower defense games in Warcraft 3 I've found that I've burned out on the genre and find those types of games pretty boring. However today Kingdom Rush is free. Even as someone who generally finds tower defense dull, this game is so well made that its actually enjoyable for me.
It has a nice graphical style, heroes, spells, interesting branching towers with smaller upgrades/skills you can purchase after maxing them for even more diversity. It also has a great system for rewarding playing higher difficulties and completing challenges. It's not just one of those boring build tower games and watch enemies walk through lanes, there's actually always something for you to be doing so you're constantly engaged.
On a side note, Walking Dead is amazing. I got it on PC when it first came out. The only problem is dealing with save files. It's an absolute nightmare getting the game to properly save and load =/

Hunters: Episode One and its HD version (iPad) are free. Nice bounty hunter turn-based strategy game loaded with various missions/victory conditions. Gotta try it!

Infinity Blade and Asphalt 7: Heat are free right now. Gladiators and race car drivers would surely enjoy these games.
